The Ancients

Techie stuff is really cool and a great waste of a day when there's nothing else more enticing to do, like the windows and bathrooms. I spent this morning writing another travel blog of exciting things and to match up some of the photos. I wish I could still be paid by the hour for it.

Randy is officially the Photo King. We have literally thousands of photos to sift through, identify and edit. Don't tell him I told you this, but once they were nestled together in files, they kind of look alike. But aren't they just the most wonderful shots? He has an undeniable knack at getting the right picture with the right lighting in the right angle at the right time. Our long walks sometimes resembled a leisurely stroll there was so much picture-taking going on.

I'm a big dreamer, that is my Achilles heel I'm afraid, and the trip makes me full of daydreams of life in exotic places like ancient Rome. Not as a slave, who would want that, but maybe Cleopatra would be ok, before Egypt was conquered when she had all sorts of room for her cats. Other than her, ancient Rome kind of sucked for women.

Being home has been weird now that we are really aware of space after being squeezed into ancient cities and using public transportation. We walked to our favorite little breakfast place down the street (walked!!) and the first thing we noticed was how huge it was. Hey you guys can put another 10 or 12 tables in here. And look at the size of the breakfasts: they are served on plates big enough to be platters. The streets are wide and uncluttered here too. All this beautiful land and we're paving it over for giant cars and trucks we really don't need.

The showers were so small in Italy you could barely turn around to wet down on all sides. I remember a good laugh sitting on the bed listening to the pathetic trickle of water and Randy in the shower. I heard the  sound of the bar of soap hitting the floor, followed by a muttering of 'Heaven Help Me' as the door of the shower slid open. He had step out of the shower to pick it up!
